Knowing Your Heating Options

Nov 21, 2018

Indeed, we know that heating your home is not always a top priority in sunny San Diego, but it’s still something you’ll have to consider for your family’s comfort. Of course, those sunny, warm days aren’t always a guarantee and some of us have been known to wimp out when it gets below 60 degrees. Granted, central heating and air are not always a home staple — and for a family on a budget, these expenses might seem like a luxury rather than a necessity.

Luckily, we’re here to let you know that central heat isn’t always the only option. In fact, if you’re looking for affordable warmth, here are three options to keep in mind:

Heat Pumps

So, what exactly sets a heat pump apart from the rest? Well, while most heating systems run on fuel, a heat pump works by transferring heat to your home. To further elaborate, warm air is pulled from the outside of your home and is circulated (in tanks) to coils containing extremely cold liquid refrigerant. Next, when the air passes over the coils, it is then warmed, producing that desired heat. Another benefit to investing in a heat pump? The process can be reversed making it a great option in the summer, too.

Opt for Ductless

Another option that is perfect year round is a ductless system also known as a mini-split. This easy and quick-to-install unit is one of the best ways to keep individual rooms in your home or maybe a workshop or add-on rec room evenly heated and cooled. Indeed, ductless systems can be installed without any disruption to your normal home life. The main benefit of these units is the level of control. Since the units are individually placed in each room, you aren’t wasting energy heating or cooling an unoccupied room.

Upgrade Your Thermostat

Fact: your thermostat plays a big role in the quality of your heating. Certainly, if you are still living with an outdated, non-digital thermostat, then it might be worth it to invest in an upgrade.

Today’s modern thermostats can be controlled directly from your mobile phone. Not only can you control your home’s temperature from any room, but you can also set up a pattern to allow heat to automatically adjust based on the time of day. Not only is this convenient, but it’s also a great way to save on your energy bill, too. Say hello to the perfect home temperature!
