DIY Ways to Clean and Disinfect Your Home

Apr 15, 2020

With everyone looking to keep their homes as clean and germ-free as possible nowadays, it can be somewhat difficult to find your favorite cleaning products and disinfectants on grocery store shelves. But that doesn’t mean you can’t keep your home sparkling clean using a few ingredients you likely already have in your pantry.

With the help of some natural, DIY cleaning alternatives, you can get the job done without any brand name cleaners (and help your indoor air quality in the process); here’s how:

How Can I Naturally Clean My Home?

Create an All-Purpose Spray

One of the best ways to clean surfaces in your home is by making your own all-purpose cleaner. Just as effective as the bottle you’ll typically purchase at the store, here’s what you’ll need to do to create your own:

  • Acquire a spray bottle.

  • Pour ½ cup of white vinegar into the bottle.

  • Next, pour ¼ cup of baking soda.

  • After that, use 4 cups of hot water (not boiling hot) and mix the ingredients.

Once complete, you’ll have an effective all-purpose cleaner to use around your home. From wiping down the bathroom sink to cleaning door handles, the possibilities are endless with this incredibly easy-to-make solution!

DIY a Kitchen Counter Sanitizer

Since you’ll want to also sanitize surfaces in your home (such as your kitchen counters), you’ll need to create a solution that can kill harmful traces of bacteria — enter a DIY kitchen sanitizer! To make your own, you’ll want to do the following:

  • Heat ½ cup of white vinegar (5%) to 150 F.

  • Once complete, carefully pour it into a clean spray bottle.

  • Next, spray the heated vinegar on your kitchen countertops.

  • Let sit there for a few minutes, before wiping it off.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well this natural cleaning method will work. This not only helps give your countertops a deep cleaning, but vinegar is a much safer solution to use than a store-bought cleaning agent that is packed with an array of harmful chemicals.

Once complete, it’s time to clean another part of your home: your indoor air quality.

How Can I Clean the Air in My Home?

Look into Professional Indoor Air Quality Products

Another vital piece to the cleaning puzzle is to clean the air in your humble abode. Of course, you can’t physically do that with any cleaning products on the market. However, you can accomplish the task with an array of professional indoor air quality products that can be added to your existing central HVAC system — such as an Air Scrubber and/or ultraviolet filter.

These products will remove up to 99% of the harmful contaminants from your HVAC’s air supply before it even has the chance to leave your air ducts. Not only will you reap the benefit of fresh, clean air, but you’ll have much more peace of mind knowing that it can help eliminate any airborne micro-organisms — a win-win for any homeowner! And there’s an added bonus. If you or your family suffer from allergies, asthma, or compromised immune systems, you will all breathe easier with clean, fresh air circulating throughout your home.
