Snaking & Hydro jetting in San Diego

Cutting-Edge Solutions to Your Drain Problems

A plumbing snake or auger is a long and flexible metal tube that’s pushed through the drain until it reaches the clog, and then pushes through whatever is jamming the pipe. In contrast, hydro jetting is a high-pressure water system that flushes and cleans your pipes, increasing the efficiency and flow of your lines. It removes grease, sand, debris, and other buildups that occurs frequently in drain and sewer lines. Jetting is often needed when traditional snaking does not clear the blockage.

Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air offers both traditional drain snaking and hydro jetting services in San Diego and throughout the surrounding areas. We have the training, tools, and expertise to provide you with the long-lasting drain cleaning solutions you need.

Hydro Jetting vs. Snaking: Which Is Better?

When a drain clog strikes, many homeowners stick with what they know. While drain snaking can be highly effective for minor to mid-size clogs, hydro jetting can actually provide you with a longer-lasting solution that’s better for your plumbing system, the environment, and your wallet.

Take a look at some of the differences between snaking and hydro jetting below:

  • Drain snaking involves pushing an auger into the drain from a sink, tub, toilet, or cleanout until it reaches the clog. Then, a crank is used to dislodge the blockage in the pipe. The auger will either push through the blockage, cause it to break it up due to the twisting action, or get attached to it so it can then be pulled out.
  • Hydro jetting uses a pressure washer (up to 3500 PSI) to clean out buildup and remove debris from the walls of your pipes, including roots and grease. This method of drain clearing is environmentally safe, economical, and quick. The process is done through a cleanout, the opening or drain that leads into your plumbing system.

The type of drain cleaning service that’s right for your home will depend on a few factors, including the size and extent of the blockage, where the clog has occurred, what type of plumbing system you have, your budget, and more.

Cutting-Edge Camera Inspections

If snaking the drain doesn’t work, and hydro jetting is insufficient as well, our team will conduct a full camera inspection. This allows us to examine the inside of your home’s plumbing system without causing any damage. Our state-of-the-art camera inspections allow us to visually see what is causing the clog, blockage, or other problem with your pipes. From there, we’ll be able to effectively address the issue and make the necessary repairs.

Tips & Advice From Our Experts

  • What Are the Options When PVC or ABS Pipe Has Failed?
With PVC you have a couple of choices if your pipe is failing; one is to repair the bad connection that is causing a stoppage. The other is to go ahead and replace the whole line. If the line is about 40 years old and is showing signs of age throughout, definitely replace. These days, you can replace the pipe without a digging trench. Based on the condition of the line, it may be an acceptable option to do just that. However, if the offset worsens trenchless may no longer be an option.

  • Easy DIY for Better AC & Heating Efficiency
No need to call a heating and air conditioning repair or installation contractor for this easy task. Simply purchase a new air filter and replace the current one. Your air quality and efficiency will be improved by this simple step. Be sure to check your air filter every 30 days during summer use, and replace it when needed.

  • Improper Ducting Can Destroy Your HVAC System...And Your Utility Savings!
Ductwork is one of the most overlooked, but most important components of your heating and air conditioning system. When our Project Managers come to do an engineering analysis, they will use Duct-a-Lator to ensure that your system is sized properly and is using the proper CFM or cubic feet per minute. When ducts are undersized they will cause system breakdowns and significant loss of efficiency. Always make sure the ducting is checked when you have an AC or heater repair or replacement your HVAC system.
  • When to Replace Heating & Air Conditioning System
A common question I get asked is, “When do I need to replace my furnace or air conditioner?" Actually, you can keep repairing virtually forever, but this is not necessarily cost effective. A good rule of thumb is: Replace when your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old, and your furnace when it is 15 years old (or repair costs start to exceed the value of unit). Heating and cooling equipment has become MUCH more efficient in recent years. Replacement of older, less efficient systems should absolutely be considered now based on current financing options, tax benefits, municipality rebates and low-interest rates. You should consider replacement if you have any of these concerns: System needs expensive repairs, the utility bill is too high, rooms are too hot or too cold, you have humidity problems, your home has excessive dust, or the system is too noisy.

  • Is PVC and ABS Piping Bad?
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) piping were produced experimentally in the 19th century, hit the US in the 1950’s, and is most commonly used in today's sewer systems. While PVC or ABS pipe can last for decades, the thin-walled pipe can be damaged by inadequate bedding/fill or ground settling and heavy root growth. Once a section of plastic pipe is damaged, the other connections may deteriorate over time or roots will damage another section of the line. This type of piping can last a long time if it is a quality pipe and the installation was done properly. Thinner-walled pipe flexes and is more susceptible to premature problems.
