Tips & Advice

Tips & Advice From Our Experts

  • Before You Buy: Do You Know What's Hiding in the Drains?
Buying a home is exciting and for many, it is a dream come true! But you want to be sure your dream home does not come with a hidden nightmare. An often overlooked and very important part of the home: the main sewer. Having the main drain cleared so a camera (drain vision) can be used to inspect the line can reveal some hidden issues such as deterioration or root intrusions in the line. This simple inspection can save you unwanted surprises and costly repairs prior to buying a home!

  • High Water Pressure?
Noticing high water pressure at plumbing fixtures in your home? Water pressure in the home is similar to blood pressure in the body - it needs to be regulated to keep the system healthy. When unregulated water pressure causes damage to the plumbing system, this can lead to emergency plumbing calls, like flooding. Having a water pressure regulator installed is MUCH more cost-effective than mold remediation or replacing flooring or drywall! So we recommend installing or repairing water pressure regulators to protect your whole home.

  • How to Keep Electric Bills Down
Do you feel like your summer electric bill has been sky-rocketing? When an air conditioner starts to age, homeowners end up over-paying for comfort. When this happens, it's time to look into investing in a new, high-efficiency system. With the rapid advances in heating and cooling technology, it makes much more sense to invest the money in a new system, rather than paying for wasted energy. New systems often come with energy efficiency rebates and several great financing options. Add to that, the money that is saved on energy bills after they are installed, this becomes a no-brainer. Not only will you be more comfortable in your home, it's much more satisfying to invest in your home than it is to send money to the electric company!

  • Smelly Garbage Disposal?

Do you have a smelly garbage disposer? Cleaning the disposal is simple! Run cold water, turn on the disposal, and feed two trays of ice cubes into the disposal quickly. Wait until all ice is completely degraded before turning off the disposer and cold water. If the disposer still smells bad, chop up a lemon into small chunks and feed it down the drain.

DO NOT use drain cleaners such as Drano. This is important! Those types of cleaners are mainly fine sand and bleach, or other caustics, which corrode your plumbing rather quickly and can cut the life of your garbage disposal in half.

  • High Water Pressure Is like High Blood Pressure
The most common problem we see are plumbing leaks. Think about when you go to the doctor... What is the first thing they do? They check your blood pressure because high blood pressure ruins your arteries, kidneys, vision, and heart. If you are having problems, high blood pressure is the first thing to try and rule out. High water pressure is no different. It ruins dishwasher solenoids, faucet washers, angle stops and washing machine hoses. In fact, it puts your entire plumbing system at risk. A water pressure regulator protects your system.
