Plumbing & HVAC Makeover for San Diego USO

The San Diego USO [1] Downtown Center (where our service men and women go when their ships are in town) was in need of some major work and had very limited funds to do repairs. The center had many plumbing and HVAC issues. With the current water shortages in San Diego, it was especially important to provide repairs causing gallons of water loss!

100+ volunteers and 10 companies came together to help!

Volunteers and companies provided their time, expertise and equipment to give the center a fresh coat of paint, new light fixtures, hot water for bathroom sinks, better air conditioning, and constructing rooms for storage. As a part of our Random Acts of Plumbing, Heating and Air program, we contributed by rebuilding several leaking faucets, leaking shower valves, replacing a cracked and leaking sink, replacing many emergency shut-off valves, and replacing cracked and worn toilet seats.

Other contributors that made this all possible:

Foresters

KirE Builders, Inc

Alpha Design Group

Perkins Painting Co.

Performance Drywall

Cal West Electrical, Interior Specialists

Wing Millwork and Supply Company

Xacte Door and Trim

American Acoustics

Steve Doyle – Sandy Point Properties, LLC

“We are so grateful to Foresters for their generous donation, of which none of this would have been possible, and Steve Doyle, a contractor here in San Diego, for coordinating all the help with the construction projects,” said Judy Forrester, President, and CEO of USO San Diego. “Our Downtown Center supported over 34,000 service members and military families in 2014, and was really in need of repairs.”

The San Diego USO

There are two local USO San Diego centers. The USO Neil Ash Airport Center is the largest in the world, and welcomed over 120,000 service members last year! The USO San Diego Downtown Center provides essential programs and services for local military families like Tuesday Night Dinners (feeds over 200 individuals each week), a Food Pantry (capacity to support 400 families twice a month), and critical family programming to ease the stresses of military life.
