Every year, our team at Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air has participated in the annual Race for the Cure, hosted by the Susan G. Komen Foundation in San Diego. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our staff, their families, and their friends, we’ve raised thousands of dollars for the Susan G. Komen Foundation over the years, helping to shed light on the struggle against breast cancer.
For 2018, we’re pleased to announce that we’ll be participating in the Race for the Cure again this November 4th. In this post, we wanted to talk a little more about the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and how you can help us contribute to this worthy cause.
About the Susan G. Komen Foundation
The Susan G. Komen Foundation is well-known for its pink ribbons and nationwide races, but what exactly does this organization do to stop breast cancer in its tracks? One of the main reasons Anderson Plumbing is proud to support this organization is their tireless commitment to researching a cure, and to support women struggling with the disease on the local level as well.
As friends, colleagues, and children of women who have survived breast cancer, our team of over 20 employees knows firsthand how difficult this harrowing disease can be, especially when you do not have a steady support system. Some estimates show that 41,000 women will die of breast cancer in 2018 alone, and that thousands more will be diagnosed with it this year.
Standing at the forefront of ending this disease is the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which awards most of their national fundraising profits directly to third-party researchers. It’s estimated that nearly 40% of their research focuses on metastatic diseases – representing a considerable amount of funding towards the goal of finding a permanent cure for breast cancer.
Local Community Outreach and “Find a Cure Friday”
Because the rate of breast cancer survival after 5 years is 95% with early detection, The Komen Foundation also works with local communities directly, through a blend of public policy advocacy and community outreach. Local branches like Komen San Diego improve women’s access to information and vital healthcare, by providing an array of free services from mammograms to biopsies to care coordination. Komen San Diego makes it their mission to ensure that all women are fully prepared to win the battle against breast cancer.
Join us …
We invite everyone to race with us this November 4th in Balboa Park, but if you can’t make it, there are many other ways to make an impact on breast cancer research. Eight years ago, Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air developed a program called “Find A Cure Friday [1].” We invite our customers to book a service or repair appointment on a Friday and we make a donation to the Susan G. Komen San Diego. In addition, we provide all customers with information on the Race as well as breast health tips. We also encourage all our customers to donate to the cure [2] if they have the means to do so, as every contribution – big and small – can make a difference.
Our San Diego plumbing, heating & AC specialists at Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air are proud supporters of the Susan G. Komen San Diego. Contact us today at (866) 374-0402 to learn how you can participate.
