How to Repipe and ePIPE
While thinking of your water lines, do not forget to check your hot water tank. Sediment is placed in the lines from the anode rod because it is deteriorating. This is extremely important, as the water tank will have to be fixed or replaced.
To Repipe your water lines, if the house sits on a slab of concrete, it will be difficult. PVC, Galvanized, and Copper pipes are easy to replace. To get started, grab a hacksaw, pipe wrench or wrenches, Teflon Tape, glue and primer, solder, flux, and a propane torch along with reducer bushings or ells.
To start the Repipe job, either choose Galvanized or plastic piping. Turn off the water to the house. Connect hot water to the hot water lines and the cold with cold. All new water pipes will need to be flushed from the faucet outside to remove the glue from the water lines. This also will remove the air from the lines. Go to each pipe connection and check for cracks or leaks.
When Repiping, plastic fittings that are used between galvanized or copper pipes has to have two terminals for grounding along with ground wire to go across the plastic fitting. Sometimes the ground source will use the in-house plumbing.
Now, there is new piping in the house that should last for many more years to come.
