Shower Valve Repair

If you have been having problems lately taking a shower and look dazed and confused, it is because your showerhead, faucets, or the shower valve is breaking or is worn out. Here is what to look for.

Determine if Your Shower Value is Bad

When you use the handle to turn on the shower, does it grind? Does it not turn at all? What about the hot water? Is the water trickling and not coming out? Or is it not mixing hot and cold together correctly? Maybe you are not getting any hot water or no water at all. It seems the water just suddenly stopped. This means you have a bad shower valve.

In the shower faucet there is a valve cartridge. This makes your shower valve go bad because it becomes worn out and defective. One other major problem that is seen is leaking or seeping water. The rubber rings and parts around the shower valve and cartridge have to be placed. These parts could have broken, corroded, or became dry rotted.

Sometimes the shower valve seems bad but the plastic knob instead is cracked. So, you will have to hunt for that part so you will not have to spend money to replace the whole thing.

Another way to know if you have a bad shower valve is you do not have a problem at all. Sometimes believe it or not the valve can be put in upside down. So, when the shower is on and the water is coming out of the showerhead you also see water coming out of your spout. But, a tiny drip is normal. If it becomes excessive check this first. If you know its old then your diverter has to be replaced.

Next time you see these problems start, before your shower valve goes really bad, do preventive maintenance. This will save money in the long run.
